What a ceramic coating does

A ceramic coating is a liquid polymer that chemically bonds to your car's clear coat and cures into a hard, glossy, hydrophobic layer. It resists UV fading, oxidation, and minor chemical etching from things like bird droppings and sprinkler water, and it sheds water hard enough that most dirt leaves with the rain.

The practical difference from wax is duration and durability. A wax gives you gloss and light protection for a couple of months. A coating holds for years, and the car stays cleaner between washes — which for a daily driver in Colorado, with its sun, road salt, and spring hail season, is the real return.

Why the prep matters more than the coating

A coating locks in whatever condition the paint is in when it's applied. Seal a swirled, contaminated surface and you've preserved those swirls for three to five years. That's why both of our packages start with a full decontamination wash, an iron decon, a clay treatment, and then paint correction — before a drop of coating goes on.

This prep is the majority of the labor in a coating appointment and it is where the difference between a good and a bad coating job actually lives. It is also why a coating appointment runs considerably longer than a detail.

Choosing between 3-year and 5-year

The 3-Year Coating at $800 includes paint correction and a professional-grade single-layer coating. It's the right choice for a daily driver in decent condition where the goal is protection and easier upkeep.

The 5-Year Coating at $1,200 upgrades to a premium two-layer coating system, with however many correction stages the paint calls for before it goes on. Choose it when the paint needs real correction work before being sealed, or when you plan to keep the car long enough for the extra durability to pay for itself.

Aftercare

A coated car still needs washing; it just gets much easier. Wash with a pH-neutral soap, avoid automatic brush washes, and skip abrasive polishes, which cut into the coating. That's genuinely the whole routine.

Coatings are not scratch-proof and won't stop rock chips or a shopping cart. What they do is hold gloss, resist etching and UV, and keep the car far easier to maintain for years.

Best for

  • New or newly corrected cars worth protecting
  • Vehicles parked outdoors year-round
  • Owners who want less washing, not more

Common questions

What is ceramic coating?

Ceramic coating is a liquid polymer applied to your car's paint that chemically bonds to it, creating a hard, glossy, hydrophobic layer. It protects against UV fading, oxidation, minor chemical etching, and makes the car far easier to keep clean, with the effect lasting for years rather than the weeks a wax lasts.

What is paint correction?

Paint correction is the process of machine-polishing your car's clear coat to remove swirl marks, light scratches, and oxidation, restoring depth and gloss to the paint before any wax or ceramic coating is applied. Our Platinum Detail includes correction, and both ceramic coating packages include it as part of the prep.

How long does a detail take?

Depending on the package and your vehicle's condition, detailing takes anywhere from 2 to 5+ hours. Ceramic coating appointments typically run longer since they include paint correction and cure time.

Do you charge extra for oversized vehicles?

Yes — vehicles with three rows of seating or a truck bed carry an oversized fee of +$50 on detail packages and +$100 on ceramic coating packages, since these jobs take meaningfully longer.
